How it runs

This isn’t a tick-box course. You’ll be at the shop most days, joining trips as part of the team, learning how a dive day really works — from gear room to debrief. You’ll shadow guides, help with check-out dives, refine your own skills, and gradually take on more responsibility.

The timeline depends on you. Four weeks if you’re already an experienced diver. Six if you’re building dives during the course. We adjust to where you are.

What you’ll learn

  • Dive theory at instructor level
  • Leading certified divers and check-out dives
  • Briefing skills — the difference between a good and a bad dive
  • Emergency management and scenario response
  • Demonstrating skills to a teaching standard
  • Mapping a dive site
  • Working with the boat crew, the office, the kitchen — being part of the team

Requirements to start

  • Age 18+
  • SSI Rescue Diver (or equivalent) certification
  • Specialties — Deep, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility (or 5+ logged dives in each)
  • Emergency First Response certification within last 24 months
  • Minimum 40 logged dives to start, 60 to certify
  • Doctor’s medical clearance for diving
